Samsung has announced a new security feature called Phishing App Risk Alert. The company says the feature will be unveiled along with new Galaxy products released in the second half of this year. This appears to refer to the Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 series
These new devices are expected to run One UI 9.0 out of the box and launch in July 2026.
Phishing App Risk Alert is designed to prevent risky apps from opening on devices running One UI 9.0. In earlier versions of One UI, Samsung blocked known phishing apps from being installed. Even if such apps are installed through other means, One UI 9.0 can prevent them from launching and prompt you to remove them from your Galaxy phone or tablet.
Samsung says it cross-references data from the Galaxy Store to power this feature.
Samsung will also check whether an app was installed through remote control software or around the same time a suspected phishing call was received. The company could expand this feature to more Galaxy devices in the future through the stable One UI 9 update.
Samsung is working with South Korea’s National Police Agency, the National Forensic Service, and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) to help maintain a secure environment for Galaxy devices in the country through up-to-date security policy updates.
These updates can be installed automatically after users choose whether they want them downloaded over Wi-Fi or cellular data.
Samsung says it has already helped block 400 million malicious messages since September 2024 through a feature called Malicious Message Blocking. The feature was developed in collaboration with the Korea Communications Commission and KISA and is currently available in South Korea.
For another security feature called Intelligent Blocking, Samsung uses AI trained on roughly 500,000 pieces of data per month provided by KISA to automatically classify and block suspicious messages related to illegal gambling, fraudulent loans, smishing, and stock scams.
Call Screening is another feature Samsung developed to help Galaxy users avoid spam and scam calls. The feature uses Galaxy AI to answer incoming calls on the user’s behalf. It summarizes the caller’s information and the content of the call, then provides relevant details so users can decide whether the call is worth answering.
This feature debuted with the Galaxy S26 series, and was released to the Galaxy S25 series recently.
Voice Phishing Suspicion Call Notification is another security feature available on Galaxy phones running One UI 8.0 or later in select markets.
It uses AI to analyze the risk level of suspected voice phishing calls in real time and alerts users through “Suspicion” or “Warning” messages displayed on the call screen.
